Version 3.1 Released

I've updated the game! TLDR: The game has 4 playable characters and achievements now.

v3.1 : Trogdor and Friends Update

New features

  • Added achievements. When an achievement is unlocked, a popup will appear to notify the player. Achievements can be viewed under the new Extras menu.
  • The achievement system is extensible and supports many different types of unlockable achievements. Some achievements' unlock conditions are shown to the player, while others are not. Watch this space, because I'll probably be adding more achievements in future updates!
  • Added cutscene viewer menu. Any cutscenes that have been previously viewed can be rewatched as many times as you like.
  • Added new cutscenes for levels between 50 and 100. The original Trogdor did not have any cutscenes in the back half of the game, so this will keep later levels more interesting.
  • New playable characters: Strong Sad's chiaroscuro dragon, Wormdingler, and the S is for Sucks Dragon.
    • A new menu appears upon starting a new game, where you can select which character you'd like to play as.
    • These characters have tweaked stats and unique abilities compared to Trogdor.
    • The tutorial has been relocated to this new menu and appears as an option alongside the four playable characters.
    • Each character has unique voice commentary sampled from various HSR media, corresponding to whichever character drew them (e.g. Coach Z for Wormdingler, etc).
    • Each character also has a new jingle that plays when they win a level, composed by the lovely Dot Maetrix. Thanks!
    • For most cutscenes, each character has their own cutscene variant. These variations can be selected from the cutscene viewer menu.
    • By default, only Trogdor is available. Other characters are unlocked over time.
    • Characters can be unlocked by gaining achievements or simply accruing play time.

Changes and tweaks

  • Menu system has been reworked. Default menu now allows you to quickly start a new game or continue an existing one, with submenus to navigate through additional content.
  • The first time you start up the game, the tutorial level will play automatically. Afterward, it can be selected from the character select screen.
  • When enabled, the Troghammer now appears immediately on levels 90 and above, providing additional challenge.
  • Save format has been changed. Existing saves will be upconverted to v3.1 format upon boot.
  • Peasant spawning system has been overhauled to more closely mimic the original browser game. This should also improve balance, as peasant spawning is now tied to individual cottages.
    • Compared to previous updates, levels with more cottages will be easier and levels with fewer cottages will be harder (as originally intended).
  • Easter egg from v2.x that allowed you to play using the S is for Sucks Dragon has been removed. The S is for Sucks Dragon can now be unlocked the same way as the other dragons.

Fixes

  • Numerous VRAM crashes and minor visual bugs fixed. Too many to count.
  • Removed Large Bean
